AutoScratch

by John Usher

A software system from JAR-lab to generate impossible DJ scratches.

Vinyl velocity and cross-fader actions are recorded at high-resolution using any time-coded vinyl (e.g. Traktor, Serato, Final Scratch).

The velocity and cross-fader curves can then be further manipulated, either automatically or manually, e.g. to generate “tighter” scratches or new (possibly impossible) scratches.

The original audio sample can then be re-processed using the new scratch data. Alternatively, a new audio sample can be used with the new scratch data.

All processing is undertaken at a much higher resolution than with a conventional real-time software-scratch system, giving a sound quality comparable with analog vinyl.
